Let’s talk today about why using a face primer is so important, beneficial, and multi-faceted. There have been so many advances in how we apply makeup, what steps to apply make up and it sometimes seems really overwhelming. Today, I’m here to share what I’ve learned from my celebrity makeup artist daughter on primers for mature skin.
Currently, we’re spending a lot of time inside, I’ve still taken good care of my skin but when I have Facetime photoshoots, I do my best to prep my skin with primers. One of the ways I use my primer daily is as a protective barrier. I always put on SPF first and then apply my primer on top of my SPF after it has dried completely.
NYX Bare With Me radiant perfecting primer – Lately I’ve been using NYX Bare With Me radiant perfecting primer. Available at CVS for under $16.00 This primer is really hydrating and it contains cannabis sativa oil which I found to give me a beautiful glow and just the perfect amount of hydration to feel comfortable all day without any makeup.
Laura Mercier’s Foundation Primer Protect – The one I’ve also been using a lot during this quarantine is one that also contains its own SPF, this one is Laura Mercier. Laura Mercier’s Foundation Primer Protect has an SPF of 30. I really like this one also when I’m not wearing makeup and want a little protection while out in my garden or doing a little yoga outside. This is the priciest of the ones I use at $38.00 but it does have SPF so you only need one product.
The Porefessional by Benefit – The primer I use for going out or photo shoots and want that poreless skin canvas is The Porefessional by Benefit. This primer makes your skin feel like velvet but it still allows your natural glow to come through. I use this primer on my neck to get rid of fine lines and give a “blurred” look to all your wrinkles. It seems like your wrinkles just magically disappear (a bonus is that it just feels so good!) I also use this primer as a touch up during the day over my makeup. I just apply a little bit to clean finger tips and apply to areas that have gotten a little shiny. I purchase this from Amazon in the set, you get the full size and a travel size tube for $46.00.
Luminous Matte Makeup Primer with açaí berry – When I’m looking for a completely matte look, my go to primer is elf Luminous Matte Makeup Primer with açaí berry. This primer really eliminates shine for me when I want a completely matte look. I also use this primer for touch ups and with this price of $6.00 and it’s small size I pack it in my purse and travel bag for touch ups while I travel (hopefully we can all do that again soon, but until then, let’s stay inside!)
Let me know if you use any of these primers or what other primers you like the most!
