What Feathers Mean to Me | Shop Embrace

Feathers are freedom

Feathers represent gentle ascension and transition.

These are things I am going through at this moment in my life. Therefore, the feathers are my way of reminding everyone we are all ascending together.

Gentle ascension into transition started out that way but I feel more like a phoenix rising from the ashes. We all go through transitions, some good transitions, and some very difficult. Mine was a divorce, the death of both parents and my dog, Smooch – all within 2 years.

Today my life is all about freedom. When I was a child growing up I wasn’t allowed to make many choices on my own. When I tried I wasn’t listened to. When you are constantly told your ideas don’t matter, you become quiet, you give up. For me, I knew there would come a time in my life that I could fly using my talents and creativity, fulfilling my dreams, one day.

I remember a crow would come and sit on the street light outside my bedroom window, he was free, he also was clever, and patient. He would try and open his walnut by dropping that walnut over and over until it opened. I would watch him fly down and fly back up to his nutcracker perch, or if he got really lucky, a car would run it over – a huge treat for him, an easy meal! I also knew one day I too would figure out a way to fly,  making my crafting come to life.

I chose to work with feathers for so many reasons. they are beautiful, they are comforting to touch and most of all they represent freedom, freedom to “fly.” Whatever that may mean to you.

The first thing I added feathers to were shoes. I wanted to make a pair of old shoes exciting. I did, in more ways than one! I thought I needed a matching purse! Ideas kept coming to me and when I wore my creations, I was stopped constantly. This made me so happy and the positive comments I would receive were making me think, ‘If my creations make so many people stop and ask me where I got my things, then why can’t I make them for others?’ Well, the dream is a reality today with @shop.embrace. I’ll be able to create and put a smile on peoples faces, knowing they too will have a little bit of my freedom in their lives, makes me happy. “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul – and sings the tunes without the words – and never stops at all.” Emily Dickinson

“I’ve learned that fear limits you and your vision. It serves as blinders to what may be just a few steps down the road for you. The journey is valuable, but believing in your talents, your abilities, and your self-worth can empower you to walk down an even brighter path. Transforming fear into freedom – how great is that?”Soledad O’Brien

Most of my life I was afraid to speak up. Today, I am definitely not that way any more. It doesn’t matter your age or circumstances, you can do what ever your heart desires!

Go for it!
